Title: Info on Your Lake in the Q Post by LovetheQ on Feb 18th, 2011 at 6:13pm
I have a party headed to Your Lake in Sept this year. They want to fish for bigger smallies, but I am worried the fall fishing is a bit challenging since they should be deep. These guys are not jig fishermen, and I am of the opinion they will likely be disappointed.
I have never been to Your, but am very familiar with Badwater area. 1) Anyone have an opinion on how good or bad Your Lake smallies should be in the fall? 2) Are there some good camp sites on Your, or should we day trip from Badwater? 3) Can we make Your from the Beaverhouse put-in in one day? Thanks for the comments. Love the Q |

LTQ,
#2, About halfway down Your, where the lake narrows, they is a nice island campsite. Big enough for a small group. I would think in Sept it would be available? Would make a great base camp for day tripping into Wildgoose/ maybe Boulder , IF you can't find the smallies your after and want some Waldo action. #3, You can easily make it from Beaverhouse to Your in one day, but getting an EARLY jump on the day is the key. Sept, you should be getting the winds out of the NE. Since you probably won't need to stop at Ranger station on Beaverhouse, even if wind is up, you can ride the North shoreline of Beaverhouse and make it down to portage into Quetico lk. From there you take the short sand " pullover" on the peninsula separating Q-lk from West Bay. Even with winds, you should be able to get to Badwater portage. On Badwater, you can hug the north-shore and make it to Fair and then Your. Winds generally pick up later in the day. If you can be thru Badwater Portage by mid-morning, you shouldn't have any problems, even if you have to fight the wind on Badwater, which should be in your face at that time of year. |

Solo - Thanks for the reply. Much appreciate your info. We'll look for the island site.
One question - is the island site sheltered from the north? I would prefer a south or east facing site for more wind protection, but sometimes there is no choice. Have extra tarps for protection if needed. Yes - we will work hard at getting a very early start. Normally we basecamp on Badwater, but want to push all the way to Your this time. Have plans to stay at Indiaonta outfitter at Flanders the night before. This is a short drive to Beaverhouse put-in plus they will provide the permit and hence by-pass the ranger station. Saves lots of time. LovetheQ |

Yes, the island campsite mid-way down the lake where it narrows, is sheltered from the north by at least trees as I remember. I think stringing a tarp is a good idea, especially if your planning to base-camp ;)
