The correct solution is a function of what's in your head.  By that I mean, you need to have your problem solved in such a way that you don't spend any future time thinking about it.

I can think of nothing worse than you are at the end of the day, enjoying the outdoors in a restful moment.  Then you turn and see your canoe and your thought shift to "issues" with the canoe that occurred at the point of "delivery."  So, in terms of costs, THAT would be the what I'd seek to remedy.
