Three ways at least. First would be to use a different template. Second would be to click the "Mark ALL Posts As Read" link. I think that works for all the templates but I did have some difficulties with some which I think are fixed. Lastly, they will stop blinking when you open the boards with new posts.

You and me both! At least you guys shouldn't be able to break anything after thinking: "Hmmm, I wonder what happens when I flip this switch?"

The main benefit for you folks is probably way faster searches and searchable PM folders.
