Title: Buying an Ontario License
Post by Snow_Dog on Jul 13th, 2011 at 5:05pm
Anyone got any good ideas on the best way to get an Ontario fishing license remotely in about 2 weeks?

Walts Dry Goods no longer does licenses by phone and mails them.  MNR says there is a mail strike and thus cannot get me a license in time.

I guess I will need to find someplace willing to FedEx me a license.

The reason I can't wait to buy it until I get into Ontario is that I will be entering Woodland Caribou PP via Manitoba and I will not be driving thru Ontario on my way up...I hope...unless there's no other way to do it.

I just order a fishing license through MNR and they mailed it to me. The Postal strike was over last I checked. Unless they are unable to guarantee the 2 week time frame.

Then I would talk to an outfitter that you have worked with in the past on the Northern Side and see if they can help you out. Our outfitter on the Northern side always bought are license for us in the past, and  they could probably drop in the mail for you.

Strike is over.  Call the MNR.

Talked to another guy at MNR.  He says, yes, strike is over but allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.  Trip is in 2.5 weeks.

Anyone got any firsthand accounts on how long it REALLY takes?

Snow_dog  --  I think you should plan on driving though Ontario, as least a small part of it, so you can buy your license.  I know I wouldn't trust the mail or some remote processing.  Or....drive up before the trip, and buy the license.

Just go fishing S_D.  If you get stopped, tell them what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this . . . . . ."Have you paid your dues?  Yeah, I've paid my dues. The checks in the mail."

Slow-pitch to PhantomJug...
Who's Jack Burton?   :D

Strike is over, but the backlog remains.

Might be worth the detour.  Google found a 2001 reference to Woody's Service in Lac du Bonnet, MB.

A call to the MNR might provide you with out-of-province providers.

Fixed your post.
Was riffing off the quote!
Jack Burton: You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?
Thunder: Who?
Jack Burton: Jack Burton. *Me*!

Good luck with the licence.

Got my license already.  It helps when your paddle partner has to make a business trip to Detroit and has time for a side trip across the border.   ;D

Had that not suddenly become an option, I would've settled for this:

I think this would probably be the fastest way to get an Ontario license without spending a fortune on FedEx or some other priority service.  It's an extra $10 but if you need it fast it's worth it.
