Title: Forum readability poll
Post by db on Jul 15th, 2011 at 4:43pm
I haven't seen a new poll on the new version (~7/11) yet so here goes. You can delete/change your vote at any time (I think). Comments (replies) in this thread are carved in stone as usual so please add a new one if you change your mind and vote again. Quoting yourself could be helpful in that case.

FWIW - I didn't allow guest voting since guests don't have a choice. :o  :-/

Also - I do reserve the right to change any templates at any time as that is the whole purpose of the poll.

And - don't you wish you could modify a current canoe trip by clicking your heels together a few times?  ;D

I think I like "experimental" best at this time.

Wow that's kinda in your face isn't it? Seems I can change/diminish that. Maybe later.

In any case, where there is one there are usually more.

... reload your UserCP > Profile  > Options page and when what you see is not what you intended, make some changes and scroll down to the very bottom and click 'Save' to (temporally or somewhat permanently) carve any changes you wish to make in stone electrons.

... the, 'and here's why' addendum was also a lagit question that begged explanations. Oh well, whatever, but remember, just like you, I get tired of all the give and take sometimes too.

I'm not sure everyone understands how to access this thread.  Otherwise you might get more feedback.

I checked and I'm using the default, and it's working fine for me. I did play around with my settings the last time there was a change. I'd noticed the background color changed. But stayed with the default and I got use to it OK.

Kind of like when they change everywhere they put things in the grocery store. You have to hunt of awhile, but you might find something new to use too.

It took me a while to find the view topic link myself!  ;D    Such is life.

I originally screwed up on a setting. You can now, I think, recall your vote and re-vote for up to 9,951,840 minutes. (I live in WI after all ;D ) And it's not in everyone's face all the time anymore so....

What is truly surprising to me is that the current leader is the new larger font. I had no idea and if you take a look around the neighborhood, it's like twice the usual size isn't it? Hey, whatever works. Just trying to make things easier for all involved.

The one thing I wonder about is as much as I like to understand how stuff works and why things get to be 'normal, I've always tried to keep the default browser preference settings in all the browsers I use to check things with intact, assuming that as the default that 'should' work for most. I also think most would quickly modify things to fit their personal preferences so I really never know what anyone sees until someone speaks up.

The other thing I've ALWAYS wondered about is do Windows people's browser windows still fill the entire screen. That's a default I never did understand and never could get use to and I can get use to most anything if I try hard enough.

minimal...looks a lot like the old one so I kept it & didn't try any more.
What was the default?

Who cares at this point? I may, next time I check this thread, make the default the one with the larger message text. Hey if that's what the majority prefer - works for me.

QJ default large. Easier on the eyes. No binoculars needed to find the portage blazes... ;)

DB -- I went to the "minimal collapse" as it hides all the irritating ads, but I wish I could make the text as large as the "QJ default large"

Oh well... tradeoffs, tradeoffs...

I am hoping you take this as constructive criticism:

the text type here is about the worst I have ever almost seen, would like to say I have seen it, but I can't, ergo: I have almost seen it.

using the big experimental doesn't really fix the problem, it's not the text in messages that is difficult to read, it's the other text

with all the old farts, you'd think an easy type like Ariel or Calibri, but I guess its your toy

If you use the "blue collapse" it is arial font.

If someone could provide a screen capture of QJ together with some other, more readable, site I'd do my best. Woulda been nice to know years a ago but hey, if you can't read it, where there's one there's more. Speak up.

The default settings are just fine with me.  Thanks for all your continuing effort to make QJ a great site.   ;)
