Title: 9/2 to 9/10 Stanton Loop Post by JChief on Jul 23rd, 2011 at 3:12pm
Our group of 5 will be putting in at Stanton on 9/2 and are planning the following route;
Pickerel,B-chain, Fern, Olifaunt, Sturgeon, Russell (Chatterton, Keats, McDougall area), Antoine, Deux Riveries, Twin, Dore, Pickerel. B-Chain to Olifaunt and Deux R. may be reversed or eliminated depending on water levels. We may also try heading through Camel and Cutty Creek but previous posts on water levels there, Jimbo's encounter with the Canadian Navy :-/ using that area for training exercises, and our desire to spend as much time as possible fishing may not allow for that endevour. Hopefully we will have limited encounters with other travelers but if so, may they be users of this site. Let me know if you will be in that area of the park in that timeframe. I would enjoy meeting fellow QJ'ers. I would appreciate any input you may have on the route and any/all suggestions. Thanks for the replies to the Sturgeon/Russell chute. I look forward to paddling through there and the information provided will be helpfull. No staircase portage if at all possible. Thanks in advance! J |

I went into Camel with Jimbo but took Cutty Creek out. After Camel other than planes flying over I saw no one till I got to Kawnipi.

I just returned from a 17-day solo. Looped from Prairie Portage. Stayed on Baird on Day 4, Camel on Day 5 and then headed south to Delahey on Day 6. I saw a group of teens from Texas on Cairn, a husband/wife on the Cutty Creek just before getting to Camel and saw one tandem canoe heading north on Camel the morning I left Camel for Delahey. Then, I did not see another paddler for 9 straight days.
The water levels on the Cutty creek mid-July appeared higher than previous posts from others the past year or two. I had no problems at all. I would also think in early September, you'd probably see less folks on your planned route than in the summer months. |
