On my backpacking trip around Mt. Rainier (wonderland trail.....highly suggest it) I took a z-rest pad. Those were some of the longest nights of my life ;D. Eventually, that is in about a week, we came to a mutual agreement and I was able to sleep pretty well on one. I moved on however and upgraded (of course I did) and the z-rest found a permanent place on the shelf.

I had been looking to solve my dis-pleasure with the foam insulation system mounted on my canoe gunnels. They were popping off at awkward moments or I would have to stow them. Their use as has been previously expounded on here on this very site as a method to deaden noise when you set your paddle down to make a cast. I'm very finicky about having things as quiet as possible when I fish.

The z-rest is made of a very tough and unique popcorn foam which is tough as nails. I cut strips of this material and screwed them in place into my gunnels. (I choose metal gunnels for its machining properties). Now they are more or less mounted permanently and survived 4 days worth of driving on my roof rack with no signs of ripping or tearing. Impressive! Anyway, if you fish and have a z-rest laying around it is an option. If you don't but want to try it out, PM me with a viable offer ($) and I might spare you a strip or two ;D.
