I hate loose paddles. I much prefer to keep my spare secured in my boat (even while on portages). I had accomplished this task in the past by using a paddle strap from piragis that works via velcro. My only beef with it is if you need your spare in a hurry it might be a bit tough to access.

I was rummaging around looking for a WW paddle and came across these clips. Seems like it would be easier to snatch a paddle out of a clip as opposed to velcro. Thought I would pass it on.
