While in Isle Royale we hit a lake that had walleye. Our guys went out bright and early eager to lay in a fish fry of wally filets. I stayed in camp to tend my gear and get it dry after 5 days of rain......finally a bright sunny day.

About noon they came back skunked.......... So having dried everything out off I went and put a deep taildancer down in the calm sunny conditions. Nothing!

OK, I'll try the pockets in the cabbage weeds. After all, there is always more than one way to skin a cat right? Still nuthin......

Alrighty then, maybe I can catch some nice sized perch. After all those are good to eat. I put on a 1/8 ounce lime green roadrunner and started paddling real slow like along the weed edge. I was back at camp an hour later with 4 3lb walleyes...........1 for each of us. What a feast!

Of course I never let the cat out of the bag that I just stumbled on them while perch fishing  ;). Anyway, it seemed to be the trick and I will always have a few with me from now on.

That's the color and I bet it would work but I was using the marabou instead of the plastic. The white one didn't do so well.

It was calm and I was able to just ease along in about 8' of water with my rod in the rod holder stuck out near the weed edge which I could see. I think I had 6 lb test. I was surprised at how nice the fish were. They were decent sized ones that you expect to catch just before dark not at 2 in the afternoon on a bright, sunny, calm day.

If it would of been rougher the 1/8 ounce would of been tough to keep down and a 1/4 oz would of been a better choice. It is also highly snag resistant with the single hook which rides up. I had 2 and lost them both to pike later that day but heck at $1.39 (?) they are cheap enough.

One last thought........A good lure IMO to give to a beginner "fisherperson" (I'm tryin hard to be PC  ;) ). Easy to fish, will catch just about anything and with the single hook is very forgiving both to operator error (giving a fish slack on the fight) and to ease of release without having to deal with a bunch of treble hooks and a floppin fish.

Great story & perfect example of why we try different things until we hit fish.

I have had great success using Blakemore Road Runners in 1/4----3/8 oz.
For Waldos the Red Head with White Twister tail has been the ticket. In a river/current cast the 3/8 oz across a hole and let it drop in. Your doing it right when you can feel it clickty/clacking along the bottom.
  For Smallies its the Yellow/White jig head, Yellow/White tail.
When all else fails a nice slow retrieve so you can feel it clattering on the bottom seems to get them when other lures won't.
I rig mine completely weedless but either way the slow presentation with that spinner blade throb seems to attract them.
I see they offer them in salt water sizes.
I bet they would do well on Lakers in warmer weather with a heavier jig head?
For the money, you can't beat them.

Great lure for lots of species. But since it's a secret, I won't name it or show a picture.
