Um, yah MT, what you're doing there is fine.  I do the same with unattached lines but what I'm talking about and I think what Solo T is talking about are the tie down lines running off the tarp.  In my case I've got 8 and I don't have the time or patience to untie them from the tarp and coil them separately each time.  For that matter I'm not going to coil and tie them on the tarp each and every time I take it down, it's just too big a pain in the ass.
