The above is a pretty typical set up for me when I'm out tandem with my wife, which accounts for the lion's share of my trips.  That's a 12x10 Siltarp which is super strong and light and stuffs down into a ridiculously small bag. 
But the set up below is a little different.  The rainbow can be stuffed into a sack the size of my fist and weighs next to nothing.  I used a trucker's hitch to secure it to the tree, a taut line hitch at the bottom to hold it taut and voila! You'd swear it was the real thing.
