I think it was Mastertangler who brought these to my attention.  Was at BPS and gave them a try on a 3 day camp & fish last week.  Awesome!  Tough to get on some lures, Rapalas and anything with a thick eyelet.  I'll need to put split-rings on them. 

The fishing sucked, so did the weather.  We bugged out on day 3.  Fishing in crappy weather beats work any day.  Playing XBox warm & dry beats lousy fishing in crappy weather.   :D

I still have some of those ... use to love 'em. We use to use them w/ live bait rigs and when pan-fishing. They also come with swivels attached. They always worked well but these days... they are kind of small and hard to see and so really hard tie a knot to.

If targeting panfish, I can see a use, but just asking here - are you guys saying these things won't open up on a good fish or snag? Is it that much harder to use a good cross-lock snap?

They seem sturdier than a snap.  I've had snaps fail.  I used to prefer tying directly, but these may change my preference.  Next season will be the test.

I have been using these for over 20 years and have never had one open up. Of course I use these specifically for light line applications.....primarily cranks which have much better action with the light stuff.
These are far stealthier than crosslock snaps as well. Tiny by comparison. What I especially like about them is I am able to tie light line and get a solid connection. For example.......the thought of tying 6lb test to a split ring on a tail dancer is out of the question in my book. But I can pull it off with ease with these little clips. It is all about matching the diameter of the mono to what ever I'm tying to. 6lb makes a general poor connection to an oval shaped split ring IMO.

That example is more of a specialty application (calm, sunny day and I still want walleye) but why not have all my cranks rigged with the clips? They work just as well with 8lb test. At 10lb and above I omit the little clips and tie direct to rings. BTW, I don't take them on and off but leave the clip on the lure and retie. No bigey since I retie often anyway.

While I've never used fas-snaps, I've never had any problem with ball-bearing snap swivels. In fact, I tend to use larger than recommended sizes, and have always caught fish, even in crappy weather. To each his own... 8-)
