this pic shows my finder on the right (Garmin Echo 100), and rod holder on the left - a titelok. I prefer titelok rod holders for their extreme light weight, small size, strength and adjust-ability (up/down/front/back). I've used lots of other over the years and this all aluminum holder is the best for my tripping needs.

this pic shows the base for the rod holder, permanently screwed down to the thwart. The rod hold just attaches easily to the base with a machine screw with a toggle end on it. You can also see here the foam cut out I siliconed to the canoe. It snugly holds my transducer to read thru my hull.

finally here is the plastic water proof case for the finder battery pack. I mentioned starfritt in Jax's thread but its actually a Tite Lock brand container.

I gotta ask, though.  What is the purpose of the rod storage mounts on the thwart?  I see how you have the rods resting in there for the picture, but wouldn't those rods be in the way of your legs as you paddle, if that's its purpose?  And if it's for portaging I am not grasping how the storage rack could be of any use mounted in that position.

The vertical rod holder are for use while fishing. I always pack away everything on portages. They aren't in the way at all although it might seem like that. There is about  6-8 inches or so between my feet and the rod butts. I found that I like the rods in front of me, instead of behind my seat pointing back out the stern. They would get tangled all the time (with lures on 'em). This system works well, keeps everything more or less organized and easy to reach.

I have a battery holder I like and like others have stated about their equipment, I am partial to my battery holder.  I pulled the one I have been using out of my canoe and let it hang by the wires to get a picture. It is made out of a pipe left over from one of my wife’s curtain rods.

I need another so I had to buy a piece of pipe for the job.  I have got all the pieces together for another one but have not assembled it yet.

What is in the second picture is a .020” wall SS tubing long enough to hold all but 1/8 inch of 10 AA batteries. A SS washer punched out of .015” shim stock.  This will be soldered to the end of the SS tubing. Two brass 6-32 * ½”screws and 4 nuts. There is a PVC cap with a coupling inside it that has been bored out to be a easy slip fit over the SS tubing. The bungee cord  will go between the crimp on connectors on each end of the holder.  Wires will attach to the  6-32 screws that stick out each end of the holder.  The plastic clips are mounted on scraps of wood to make them easy to glue to the side of the boat just below the gunnel. This battery holder for 10 AA batteries weighs 5.0 oz  + 2 nuts I forgot to weigh.

I have finished the new battery holder. The 2 brass nuts and some solder have been added and there was a little more bungee cord in the last picture than I needed. Battery holder and mounting clips now weighs 5.0 OZ. This type of holder has less contacts in it than most of the holders that you buy in the store.  This holder has one contact per battery + 1 where most holders have 2 contacts for each battery.  Contacts are a source of power loss and intermittent connections.

Long and thin gives you that nice clip option. It's clean.
