I put some sealer on my tent and I thought today might be a good time to test it, with a predicted storm front moving through.

The tent passed with flying colors, but there was a period there where I wasn't sure it wasn't going to be flying to the next county!

When the tornado sirens are blazing, I'm generally looking for something a bit more substantial than a tent! :o

But it is a quiet evening around here ... since American Airlines suspended operations into/out of Dallas for the rest of the day, there are no air planes flying over ... actually its a little creepy ... like 9-11.

I caught that live on TV.   A local station (WFAA-TV) was covering it live from both the ground and a chopper at the time.  They had plenty of time to record footage as that particular funnel stayed on the ground for 25-30 minutes.

That was one of an estimated 10-12 in the area this afternoon.  LOTS of damage, but thankfully, no known fatalities.

Hey DD, were you seam sealing with seam grip or spraying a waterproofer over the fly? If so, what did you use? I have a 15 year old Mtn Hardware tent that in several spots is starting to mist right through the fly (not the seams) in a hard rain.

I was putting on a waterproof spray on the fly of an older REI tent that would weep just a bit (less than a teaspoon) in a hard rain.  I used Camp Dry spray on one end.  The end I sprayed did just fine.  Unfortunately, I sprayed the WRONG END!   :-[  Now I have to let the tent dry before I spray the OTHER end.

If that doesn't work, I'll make my own ... I already have the clear silicone and mineral spirits to make my own solution.  I may try a pump bottle application.

Happy to see you are still with us DD. I was watching your channel 4 during the storm with the use of a Roku box for my TV. What an afternoon!

Since the spray-on silicone seems to have done the trick on the tent, I've not yet had to mix up a batch of mineral spirits and silicone. 

I'll give an update if I get to a project where I'm going to need more "stuff!"

DD,

I do the same as you with the spray on silcone (Camp Dry brand is what I use). The stuff works great and has always kept me dry. I also use seam sealer on all major seams for both the tent and the rain fly for the tent.

I think I applied that latter a little too thick on my Eureka Spitfire It dried but it still sticks to itself slightly, two years after I originally applied it.
