Title: Level Six Paddling tops
Post by Jim J Solo on Apr 16th, 2012 at 2:11pm
At Canoecopia I bought a paddling top for kayaking from Level Six. I'm thinking it might work very well canoe tripping too. Some things that are different than most rain gear.

It's a pull over, so no long front zipper to leak. Ever have water pool in your lap and feel it leak in when you turn to look at something. Does have a short neck zipper to help vent. Also has a double collar, one goes tight around your neck and the other goes higher up the back of the neck and chin.

Double tunnel design for spray skirt, should minimize leaks at waist. It would work great with your favorite rain pants, like a pair of Marmot Precip pants.

Chest pockets are designed to work while you wear PFD. So it doesn't matter if you wear it under or over PFD.

Another thing, and this really works, I tried it. The back of the hood has air vents so the wind doesn't blow the hood off.

I got the lighter Chilko model and it's very packable. The vendor actually steered me away from the more expensive heavier model. But that model is well worth looking at, the Superior. It's a heavier weight but has wrist gaskets too. So no more getting water running down your arm while you carry the boat over the wet portage trails.
