Title: Re: Veron Lake Experience

Chances are you are correct.

On the other hand, my party was expecting much the same a year or so ago when we paddled down into Camel from Fred & Nan.  We hit it when two very large paddling "organizations" (ELEVEN canoes) came breezing through within an hour of each other.  The first set was of five heavy-duty, banging-clanging, alumacrafts filled with a bunch of noisy early-twenty-somethings working their way through the rapids (versus taking portages).  We got past those loud dudes (all clad in black commando outfits) & had only just arrived at the primo-campsite on Camel when ANOTHER batch of six assorted-types of canoes filled mostly with youth pulled up at our campsite to see if we were coming or going (ie. THEY wanted the site).  Fortunately, they too moved on.

Past trips to Camel were of complete solitude & I had been expecting much the same.  It was in the July 4 time frame.  Since they moved on, we pretty much had the lake to ourselves, ultimately.  I guess I had mixed feelings over the experience.  I was glad to see "youth groups" getting out into the wilderness.  On the other hand, I was a bit disappointed that both groups were so noisy.  We had seen both groups passing through Russell a couple days earlier.  They were obviously doing a "circuit" on a specified time schedule.

I suspect you'll fare better on Veron even though it's not far away.  THAT would require doubling back... or doing a much more ambitious circuit.  Not many youth groups would wish to do that.
