Title: Re: Veron Lake Experience
Post by Jon on Apr 22nd, 2012 at 2:45pm
I was in Veron on June 24 and 25 last year and did not see anyone. I consider Veron and Delahey to be companion lakes and a  good trip goal. I will be in both again this year around July 24. Veron has walleyes, bass and northern. Delahey has Lake trout, bass and northerns. The big island campsite on Delahey has an olive jar with notes from travelers dating back into the 80's. Last year we camped at a site on Veron that had not been used for a few years, it is on the southernmost point of the north shore. We chose it to get out of the wind but the island sites are generally better. Twice I have had fabulous walleye fishing there, both times in late June although not last year. Once it was raining continuously for days and we found fish stacked up and super aggressive wherever water was draining into the lake. Another time the west wind was blowing down the lake and by trolling back and forth in front of the island by the channel to Camel we caught walleye after walleye. Tough but rewarding fishing. The times I have been there in good weather conditions I have not had such great luck although I have always caught a fish or 2 in the channel from camel. My daughters were so enthralled with Veron/Delahey last year on their first Quetico trip that they insist we go back this year and do the death march to Conmee that they read so much about in the olive jar. And we are bringing some of their friends and cousins too.
