The canoe is irrelevant.  Deer leaps instinctively just before you hit it.  Hooves go thru windshield glass. Wildly kicking hooves break your ribs & since they are quite sharp they shred your chest.  You die.  :o
-- Don't hit a deer such that it goes over the hood & maybe you live as long as you don't lose control of the car and hit something like a tree or other car.  :(
