Title: Walking Home by (Lynn?) Schooler
Post by intrepid_camper on Aug 14th, 2012 at 12:05am
Just read Walking Home by (I think his name was Lynn...) Schooler.  A short, quick read that was hard to put down!  It is about the author, an experienced Alaskan outdoorsman deciding to go on a spring walk in a very remote part of the Alaskan coast.  Throughout the book he links some of the spots he is at to historic folk tales of the happenings and/or people he's heard about or actually knows.  He is also doing some deep soul searching regarding his mid-life and an ailing marriage, etc.  Packed with interesting natural history facts and some great short stories.  One is about the tallest tsunami ever recorded on earth, which took place in the fjord he begins his walk in, and which reached 1,720 feet high on some of the mountainsides.   :o
