Title: Nido powdered milk from Nestle Post by Marten on Aug 17th, 2012 at 12:34am
Nido has been around a while. Searching the old threads showed that it was hard to find. This year it was in the powdered milk section with the others. Nido is whole milk with some soy and I found it to be far,far superior to the skim milk varieties. Puddings and Jello No Bake Cheesecakes tasted so much better. They set firmer and faster than ever. I was still cutting the water by 25% but started creeping up on that with the same good results. I found it at the Woodmans store in Beloit,Wi. I have been missing out for years. :'(

I've been able to find it in the food section of the local Walmart Superstore, but I haven't actually looked for it in the last 6 months.
If you like a little dry cereal with milk for breakfast, you could also mix up a little Nido with water ... before pouring it on. dd |

I have not found it other than in Walmart in large hispanic neighborhood, but keep looking for it in my local big grocery. Nido and water and Crapola - the granola available in so many Ely stores - is a nice, quick breakfast.

I found it in the mexican food section of the grocery store
it does seem to be "oriented" at/towards the hispanic population for some reason, rather than the general market which I find strange. Milkman, a 2% low fat powdered milk has reappeared on the market, but hard to find - REI carries it again, but only sells in the single quart package - Nature's First is another dry whole milk option - havent' tried it. Nature's First is FANTASTIC powdered milk! Actually tastes like milk. I highly recommend it. It's pricey, but damn good.

I've been using Nido for a long time. The only drawback is it doesn't completely dissolve when I use it as cream in my coffee. It does taste better, seems to have more fat content, and does very well mixed cold. I use it with some Muesli for breakfast.

JJS -- I agree about Nido's problems as a coffee creamer, and I LIKE cream in my coffee. As pathetic as it is, I bring along those little creamer containers like the kind you get at McDonalds! (You need to Login or Register Coffee creamer issue solved! prouboy |

Nido is great stuff. I mix it approximately half and half with Carnation instant dry milk to yield the 2% I'm used to. It's true that Nido doesn't mix as quickly as Carnation, and it mixes better with hot water. My approach is to use a 16-oz. Nalgene bottle (which I use for rehydrating other things as well) and mix the milk in the evening. After sitting overnight it's just like out of the refrigerator, only usually not quite as cold.

Go in October and likely it will be as cold or colder than fridge. I should try the mix but with crapola or grape nuts, the higher fat content is OK. And I like this: (You need to Login or Register; great for shaking and if solo or one of us if not uses it as the bowl. Good shaking and easy to clean.

Interesting, I thought it mixed better cold. In my experience the hot water seems to separate come oils out. Also a fresher can works better overall, hot or cold. JJS |

Another Nestle brand of whole powdered milk is KLIM. This can be found in stores catering to Hispanics and Asians. Mixing is a pain - especially if the water is cold. I make it in a 1L nagalen and shake the heck out of it.

Nestle KLIM is another brand of whole powder milk. Stores that cater to an Asian population will carry it (as will those that cater to Hispanics and Caribbean peoples).

I use that Tupperware thing for mixing... well I don't know what it's made to mix. But it works well for mixing Nido milk. I mix it the night before and hope it chills in the night. Worked great last September. I liked it with my oatmeal. I just saw Nido for the first time in a Walmart (Billings) in the Hispanic section.
