South Central Indiana is potholed with mined out coal "strip pits" that are nearly always donated by the coal companies to the State Department of Natural Resources.  The Greene-Sullivan State Forest is the nearest example.  They are all alive with these same freshwater jellyfish.  I have seen clouds of them the size of cars , all moving in unison.  If you pick one up, they look much like a wet limp eye contact.  The strip pits are all nearly as clear as the lakes in the Quetico.  A favorite haunt for local scuba divers.
