What I have seen so many times is that the portage is right there but with no wear and tear it is not easy to spot. If the positions were in NAD 27 UTM's it would be easiest to transfer to paper topos IMHO. I have found it pleasurable to be able to let the GPS lead me the last 200 meters to the portage. More time to be looking for caribou. :D
