Published by A. R. Harding in 1935, I found my copy in an advertisement in the magazine Fur, Fish and Game. If you google it there are lots of people selling it. My copy appears to be an original, or at least very old, but at 5"x6" it fits in a pack nicely for reading on the trail.
The author writes about a life working for the Hudson Bay Company, northern Indians and life on the trail, hunting, fishing and trapping from Newfoundland to Manitoba and points west.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely read this, given my family's roots in the Hudson Bay Company around the turn of the century. I did find this link to download the book for free (part of the Gutenberg project) since it is now in the public domain. Multiple formats to allow reading on Kindle, Ipad, etc.

Peter C. Newman's "Empire Of The Bay" tells the full story of HBC. It's more of a historical account though, and spends less time on the day-to-day realities of the people in that era, so many might find it less interesting than Martin Hunter's book.
