Title: Re: Wet Socks and OTB Abyss Post by DentonDoc on Dec 27th, 2012 at 11:17pm
Between gore-tex and neoprene, I tend to prefer neoprene. In the neoprene category, the most available products seem to be NRS and Seal Skinz. Of those two, I like the Seal Skinz models a bit better; and within the Seal Skinz sock line, I like the WaterBlocker style the best ... has a watertight elastic section starting about mid-calf that extends to just under the knee. For your Abyss boots, you may find the neoprene makes your boot overly snug. You can adjust for this by removing one (or more) of the footbed "shims."
For periods outside of fall/spring, I tend to go with a merino wool sock with an "elastic" in-step section. Yes, your foot is going to be wet most of the day, but that's not necessarily a bad thing on a warm day. dd |
