Title: Are you planning to attend Copia this year?
Post by old_salt on Feb 22nd, 2013 at 4:23am
It appears to me that fewer QJ folks are planning to attend Copia this year. I'm wondering if that is true, and if so, what the reasons are.

Please feel free to post why you are, or not planning to attend this year.

I would like nothing more than to make a trip to Copia and meet a few QJ folk, especially the one they call "old Salt".  ;)

Every year it is the same........I get to look at the get together pics, hear about the dinner and lunches and get the distinct feeling I am missing out. Rats!

And of course the event itself sounds fun to me. I am, for the most part, easily amused so I know I could spend a couple days at Copia.

But it always coincides with an event I can make some jack at......I need to work hard so as to keep my woman "in the manner to which she has become accustomed"........ lest I read that in print........ ;D

Never was real fond of crowds plus my kid's got some of her last few hockey games of the season that weekend so missing the actual Copia part again is a no brainer for me.

Any good speakers/preasentations scheduled this year that I'll regret not attending? There was a guide from Washington state one year that I remember was excellent and sometimes I'd stumble across other things that I never expected so I do miss it a little.

Enjoy the show!

My wife and I hope to be newbies at Canoecopia this year. I've wanted to attend for a few years now and this year it works out because we'll be in Quetico snowshoeing and yurting in the days just before Canoecopia - and so the drive is not too onerous.

I'm visiting my grandkids in Washington State and the drive could be to expensive, unless I can come up with enough canoes to haul to make the trip affordable. I hauled 9 boats on my way out that paid for the trip. Only catch was I had to drive to New york from Minnesota and back to get them. So I'm a maybe still.

Not since they banned bagpipes.  I'm boycotting.

The year you showed up with the pipes was a hit! No ban on pipes as far as we are concerned. Bring 'em on!!

Yep, I'm going.  This'll be my third visit, since I found out about the event on this site.  Haven't planned out a schedule, but there look to be some interesting talks, including a review of the Wabakimi Project findings by "Uncle" Phil Cotton.  I learned of those trips at my first 'copia and did two the following summer (bless my wife!).  Plan on a couple more, this summer.

I'd love to go but am an adult leader on a Philmont trek this year and the copia weekend is the same as the best opportunity for Wilderness First Aid course so at least I'll be doing something related to the outdoors the whole wekeend.

The poll does not seem to have a choice for I'd love to go and want to but have a conflict that makes it impossible this year - or anything like conflict - but taking Wilderness First Aid training because I'm going to Philmont.

I am looking forward to the show this year. having more faces I know makes it more interesting. Putting new faces to on-line screen names is interesting too. It looks to me like Darrin took note of our feedback last year. The far north canoe excursions look especially interesting to me. Living one hour from the front door makes it a no-brainer for me.

We will be there all three days.  We are involved with Jerry's band for all of those presentations, and we will be attending the dinner with the bwca.com group, but we just might try to drop in on the QJ Saturday lunch.  Time will tell. . .but I don't want to say yes for sure.

We'll look for you guys around the floor if you go to the sessions and shop for the gear.   :)

Doubtful will be able to make it but meeting QJ folks at lunch time was the highlight for me last time.
