my wife and i are really considering buying a house on local pond/stream that feeds into a large river. the pond has moving water and is large enough to house a decent population of bass and pike. ive never really intentionally fished for bass so i was wondering on your guys take for weedless topwater. so far my limited research says the yum money frog is the way to go. scum frogs seem pretty decent as well. whats your take?

Try a Mr. Twister Top Prop rigged weedless.
You can reel it in using a steady retrieve, use a jerk retrieve or make it walk the dog like a Zara Spook.

These guys make some interesting lures.
That weedless double hook really works well.
I buy the double hooks in the right size and replace my old style trebles on my lures. So far I'm very happy with them. There frog really has some good action.

Tremendous improvements in the various rubber frog offerings. My biggest complaint was always the poor hooking ability they offered. There are some new trailer hook options which piggyback onto the existing hooks.

I am going to go "old school" and suggest a lure which I have had surprisingly good luck with although the hooking ability is a bit suspect as well.........but I have caught plenty of bass in the slop with it. The old original Snagproof rubber worm. Yes, it actually catches fish and plenty of them.

I also like what ST presented. I have always been a fan of poppers. What I might do however, is remove all the weedless hooks and put a single 4/0 weedless wormhook as the trailer........maybe dress is up with some feathers so when it sits still they are moving (marabou is good for that).

I always remove all but the rear treble and have when regs call for it added a single hook.
Neversnag makes a single weedless hook but the marabou is a great idea as well.

Hey here is another thought.......I seen this on the cover of some fishing book, I even made one but never put it in the water but you can easily picture how it would be a slay-em lure......

Take the front half of a jointed regular Rapala and remove th back portion. Then add a worm hook to the back half and add worm. Sounds groovy doesn't it? I can picture it in my minds eye :o......weedless and "snaky"..........can you say "Kerpow"?

i like i like! the top prop casts a mile, i had one when i was younger. the weedless worm is an option however i want an excuse to buy more/new stuff! i have tons of worms already to use in that fashion.

@mt, i like that jointed rapala modification idea. then you have the option of a long single worm, a double tail grub, a big single twister. i think there are some muskie lures to that effect on the market already that seem work pretty well

You know what might be kinda cool given your situation is a fly rod. I don't fly fish but in a pond situation with generally smaller fish what a great opportunity to learn. Practice dropping a little popper into all the openings in the weeds........give it a pop or two, pause and then lift it off the surface into the next pocket. Sounds rather relaxing and engaging to me  :)

BTW.......the snagproof worm is quite different than any other worm I have used. Bulkier and prone to swim and sink in different directions. Air throughout with a weighted head makes it do some unique gyrations which the fish like, at least in the slop. It tends to make itself known a bit more than a regular worm which quietly slices its way through the lettuce. The snagproof worm tends to bump into lots of things because it seldom swims straight. Then you give it a little "pop" off the vegitation and the wake up call is sounded. Casts well and stays near the surface if you desire. Admittedly I have stock in the company but you should still get one, or 3.........(I'm kidding) 8-)

FWIW.......if you get one note the hook eye is thick........use some fat line. MT's rule......thin line ties poorly to fat eyelets.......things of similar diameter tie best.

Nesting instinct is pretty strong in the fairer sex Jax.......I could be happy in a trailer as long as my shop was around......furnish the home as nice as you can afford without going into debt, she will be happier and of course you will be to........ 8-)

Or you can be like me........a mattress on the floor for 10 years, carpeting with holes and no pad, an orange formica counter top etc. etc. Paid the place off and then rewarded her for her patience......... :thumbup

we put in an offer on the house which they countered and asked for the list price again. we understand its a newer listing, so we are gonna sit back and wait. we dont feel its worth what they are asking to us and being that its new they feel all the showings/activity may lead to something. its a new listing so we feel the hype will settle and we can come to an agreement down the line. we will see!

Once the water warms up good, I love buzzbaits for bass and pike.
