I am part of a group of six men, all of us in our 60's.  We enter Quetico at  Beaverhouse on July 26 for a week trip through Quetico, Kasakokwog, and Cirrus lakes. The group leader (not I), active on another forum, has 21 trips in the Quetico, but the first time in this area.  So I thought I would ask here for any advice, recommended campsites, fishing tips, etc. to help out.  Thanks very much!

I don't fish but it's a great route.  I entered and went to Cirrus - two easy portages - down to Sue Falls.  I portaged across to Kasakokwog - definitely the toughest portage of the loop but other than being hard to find, maybe a 3 or 3.5 on a 5 pt scale.  Saw two nice island sites on Cirrus; reported great site on Kasakokwog just to east of portage from Cirrus.  I stayed at a point to west - great breeze and views.  West end of large long island not far into Quetico Lake from K.  Looked for a reported great site by western most passage from Quetico to Cirrus - up a little stream - I had to pull it in September - and sure enough - a really great site in the northeast corner of that big pond.  The Eden Island site is reported to be very nice but perhaps overused.  Depending on your mood, the beach sites on south bah of Quetico - south of portage to BH - were interesting.   Last I stayed at was on BH - east side island clos to shore about half way down east shore of BH.  Some details in my report at   (You need to Login or Register

As BillConner said, a great route. Cirrus is one of our favourite lakes in the park.

One of our favourite sites used to be 3J at the southeast corner of the channel leading from the upper part of Cirrus to the lower part. It is up high and has great views west down the length of that part of Cirrus. We have stayed there countless times over the past many years. But last September we stopped there hoping to camp and found a disgusting scene which I reported on the PCD as follows...

This used to be one of our favourite sites in Quetico. But this September we stopped here hoping to spend a night only to find large (and I do mean large!) wads of toilet paper strewn all around immediately adjacent to the primary tent site. Disgusting!!! I reported to Quetico park staff who promised to send in a crew to clean it up...

Like Bill, I am not a fishing guy, so no help there, I'm afraid.

I'm going in on the 28th with my wife and two kids via Sue Falls. All great advice on camping and hoping to throw a line in from time to time --- locating a good base camp site for us will be a priority but willing to paddle up/down Cirrus (maybe towards Quetico) to find one. Would love to be down by the pictographs on Q but will have to see what "the group's mood" will be once we come down thru Sue Falls :) Thanks for all the great suggestions on campsites!

Thanks for all the advice, I have passed it on to the group leader.  Phoenix; I will try to check the condition of that site on Cirrus.  I hope to do a trip report when I return.   I already have the title: From the Lake of Galilee to the Lake of Quetico!
I live about 10 k from the Lake of Galilee in Israel.

Cirrus could be busy.  My son and I are going in via BH on July 28th.  I have been to Cirrus once before in 2008.  There were several campsites on the end nearest BH.  We were there in May and caught a few lake trout.

I lunched at an island site at south end of the channel between lower and upper Cirrus and it was not bad.  I camped on an island site not too far west of the channel on upper Cirrus and it was nice and big enough for 6.

The report of the tp strewn about on the Cirrus campsite is disgusting, but sadly, not an uncommon occurrence on heavily used sites in the QP. 

We bring in extra trash bags, and when necessary, we've sharpened sticks, put on our gloves, and cleaned up a site or two.  I remember one beautiful site on Brent Lake that was covered in "campground lilies."  We bagged and burned the stuff, and felt much better for the effort -- knowing that Park staff lacks the capacity to address this problem throughout the QP.
