Title: Cirrus Lake? Post by jimmar on Aug 13th, 2013 at 2:38pm
I'm thinking of solo yak trip from Beaverhouse into Cirrus Lake the first week of September. I would plan to stay pretty much on that lake the entire week.
Seeking advice/tips/secrets ;) - any particular sections to explore? or spectacular campsites? |

Traveling down to the east end and checking out Sue Falls is worth the trip. There is one picto site down on that end too. Let me know if you need location and picture.

Just a thought. Not sure if you were thinking of portaging straight from BH to Cirrus. But it might be easier to go BH, Quetico, then Cirrus. If so check out the far northern end of Quetico.
Most of the campsites I would consider are documented in the PCD. The campsite across from Sue Falls was cleaned up a bit this spring. The portage crew had camped there with their chainsaws and cut up some of the deadfalls. |

I heading into Beaverhouse 8/23 for my first solo. Planning to head down to Jean then back for a few days in the NE end of Quetico and a few days on Cirrus before heading back out on 8/30. Sounds like I will just miss you. I'm interested in responses regarding the Quetico and Cirrus portions of the trip. Thanks to prior posts and the PCD, it looks like there are plenty of viable campsites in the area. Bill Connor's recent post was helpful as well. Determined to get my first LT on this trip. Any guidance along those lines would be appreciated.
Safe travels. J |

I did my first solo trip a few years about from Beaverhouse through Quetico to Jean then back. I put in on a Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend and the parking lot at BH was full. I planned to just grab the first campsite on Queitco as it was getting late but everyone I came upon was occupied. Finally I found an old overgrown site and used that. It turned out nice because I planted my tent on about 6" of moss.
I tried for LT then but no luck. I think they were pretty deep still. I did catch quite a few SM and some W. The weather was great then. Temps in the 70's, little rain or wind, and no bugs at all. It looks like late Aug. early Sept. this year may be fairly cool. My trip may have to be canceled as I am having some car problems now, but I have not made reservations yet. If I can my car back in good condition, it may be a last minute decision to go. |

we went in via BH to cirrus (family of 4) and stayed at 32? on the PCD map (about 3/4 way to channel that leads up into upper Cirrus towards SF). Great site! Caught a couple of good LTs just trolling across lake on way back from day trips on C and Quetico to see pictos. Caught a couple of W off of campsite using jigs in evening/early AMs....still need to get a trip report up... :)
