I had that happen with some thin type whole wheat I used for roll-ups.
You mentioned the "fix" in your advice for doing pasta sauce "leather".
Put a piece of parchment paper between slices.
Even better, a piece of wax paper which you save in bag and use crumbled into balls as a firestarter. ;)
