Title: Thomas lake base camp
Post by Gordy on Mar 8th, 2014 at 5:41pm
I will be traveling to the Thomas lake area in early September, 2014 with 2-3 guys.  We will start on Moose lake with an exit on Snowbank lake.  We are familiar with the Moose and Ensign area but have never been to Thomas.  We will base camp on Thomas or maybe Hatchet and fish there and the adjacent lakes.  We would appreciate any info on this area including campsite info.

Welcome aboard Gordy. Thomas is a laker lake. Hatchet is good for waldos.

if you choose Thomas to Basecamp on there is a nice island site in the middle of the lake.  We have caught some walleye for the shore there.  As Old_Salt said there are Lakers there, and Ima. Hatchett has some walleye, Kiana has some good northern fishing.  And if your up for a day trip go over to Insula and fish the area where the Kawishiwi River comes into Insula.  Caught my biggest walleye there.

I haven't camped there, but I stopped for lunch once at a campsite at the NW corner of the lake.  It's the one to the south of the inlet leading to the portage to Hatchet Lake.  My trip report describes it as a "moonscape."  You might not want to base camp there.

shows good campsites as circled.  I don't have any information about the ones on Thomas, but the circled ones are where I'd look first.
