I personally don't bring a multi-tool because I don't believe in putting all my eggs in one basket.  I can easily see me missing placing the tool or watching it fall into the water.  I bring a backup pliers because it is way too easy to lose pliers when you are in a canoe.  Plus having so many tools in one tool makes the tool awkward to use.
