Kerry loading his boat on a train got me interested in a fun survey.

How many different ways have you gotten to your put-in?

Here's mine.

1. Car/Truck/Van
2. Tow boat
3. Train
4. Plane and how many different planes, Beavers (piston, turbo), Otters (twin engine, single)

I also rode a Beach 18, but fly-in fishing, not canoeing, and a boat body plane to Isle Royale for hiking but can't remember the type.

canadian outfitter's van
tow boat
beaver plane
otter plane
cesna plane
canoe (up moose lake to PP)

Both beaver and otter once each just for the fly-in experience of it. The shorter drive was nice!
Otherwise always by road.
Imagination whenever possible.
Done. Train once. :)

All of the above but IF possible, enjoy the drive in to put-in/trail head.

Worse put-in trip EVER was my first of 4 backpacking trips to Isle Royale.
Took the ferry over from tip of Keewanaw.

Like glass on ride over, like the "Fatal Storm" on the way back. Next 3 trips flew on seaplane over and back.

ST, never did the ferry but heard the same tales. Might have to if we ever decide to kayak around Isle Royale.

I remember the boat body plane being the smoothest landing ever. I kept waiting for the bump and it never happened, just saw the water spraying up and knew we were down. Pilot came in through a hatch on top, over his seat.

I'd consider flying over with these guys and some of your gear and shipping the rest on a ferry? You could wait in relative comfort at Rock Harbor and maybe do a day hike or time flight/ferry to arrive at the same time.

Lake Superior is beautiful when it's calm and bright, but when the wind is up it it can be a rough start to a paddling/hiking trip. :P ;)

I've been on fly in fishing trips in an Otter and a Beaver, but I'm kind of boring as I've always drove to my EP's. I've used Harlan's shuttle and had him shuttle my truck. But when I was going to fly out once I opted to stay in and paddle out. Couldn't see spending the money for a half hour flight when I could paddle out instead. (twelve more days) :)

Mainly drive to put-ins for BW trips or Quetico trip via Prairie Portage. More variety with Wabakimi Project trips: Beaver or Otter flights; once a return trip with canoes held down on skiffs that saved us some rough paddling on Caribou lake, followed by truck shuttle to Armstrong.
Last hiking trip to Isle Royale ('06 ?) wife and I drove to Grand Portage and caught the boat over... much shorter than going from the Houghton side.
