MP, Most new cars aren't using the forward roof space for a rack. I also see the need for where you attached your Thule system. The Outback has it rack extended up close to it's front though, so there's no open area left. The factory rack is just not usable, mostly closed off plastic covering. I see the need to remove factory rack and check it's mounting system. It just might accept the rails you used or the Yakima "Landing Pads".
