Title: Re: coming up for air

No.  I clicked on this thread because the title puzzled me.  Coming up for air?  Must mean buried under something?  But not me.  This afternoon I was just thinking about how I feel about today, and this week.  And it's all good.  And I am certainly not thinking "getting Christmas over would help".

47 years ago today I was getting ready to go to my wedding rehearsal, and I was a nervous wreck.  Couldn't figure out why, because I was confident about getting married, but I was so stressed on that night I almost didn't survive the rehearsal and the dinner.  Fortunately, the wedding itself was beautiful (or at least if it wasn't, I didn't notice) and life for the past 47 years has been most interesting.  But on that night I surely did wonder what lay ahead.

A life, that's what.  Not perfect.  Not always easy.  But many adventures, much travel, a remarkable husband, two spectacular children, two terrific in-law children, and two fabulous grandchildren.  A life with enough challenge to remind us we aren't always in charge, and with enough blessing to remind us that it's just as well.

So now I am looking past our 47th anniversary tomorrow to a celebration of Our Lord's birth next week with our daughter and family in their home.  Such fun!  Then a trip to Texas to watch our Spartans play in the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day.  And suddenly 2015 will stretch ahead, full of promise and new opportunities.

For us, that probably won't include a canoe trip.  I seem to have come to the end of that road, as my mobility is declining quite dramatically now.  But there are cabins in the canoe country and there are still canoes.  Once I can't get into and out of a canoe, maybe there will be boats with motors!  (Egad, did I actually say that?   :P )

Lighten up, guys!  Sing a Christmas carol, or go get some eggnog!   ;D  And have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
