Agreed. It was good to meet you last year at the Copia get-together. Look forward to another get-together in Madison in March. This post is also my respite from all the holiday planning at my end as well!

Magic Paddler and Old Salt will be presenting "Customizing Your Canoe(s) for Fishing Success" on Sunday. More details to follow. 8-)
We hope to see many of our QJ friends at Copia this year. Last year we decided to focus on a QJ Dinner on Saturday evening. Lunch will be informal and you are free to organize your own thing. The Coleseum is a handy gathering place away from the mayhem of Copia. |

We will be at Canoecopia this year, but with a difference. We will have our 12-year-old granddaughter with us. Still hope we may make it to the lunch with you guys. But one of our main focus points will be to get to Jerry Vandiver's music presentations (Anna is a big fan of Jerry's and excited about seeing him "live") so I will have to check the schedule and see how it works out. Not sure if we will be staying for much of Sunday.
Look for us on the floor, for sure. Two old folks with a beautiful almost-teenager! |

As always, looking forward to all of you coming to our fair city!!!
As OS indicated, we won't make a formal reservation for lunch this year, but I'm sure we can gather at the Coliseum without any problem. And OS & Magic, let me know if you need anything at this end for your presentation. We can also talk about a Friday night gathering for those who will be here then. Has it been a year already?!??? ml |

Lunch sounds like a good idea especially as a more relaxing event away from the hustle and bustle of the exhibits. Will have to make the OS and MP presentation on Sunday this time around!

An update.
As indicated earlier, MP and I will be presenting, "Customizing Your Canoe For Fishing Success". Our assigned time slot is on Sunday at 12:30pm in Algonquin room. We hope many can stay for it. MP will be covering some hot topics such as 'which fish finders are best for wilderness fishing?', 'things to do with rental canoes', 'which batteries provide the most power?', ' best ways to mount transducers'. I will discuss rod holders, tackle box mounts, and other helpful innovative methods to stay organized for fishing. Several have asked me about Saturday dinner plans. I'm not aware of this years plan. In the past Kingfisher has planned this much anticipated event. To enhance the dinner, it was decided last year that we would not organize a lunch. My hunch would be that if one were to head to The Coliseum over the noon hour, one might encounter other QJers. Anyway, stay tuned... 8-) ;) |

Thanks for your submission PJ. We will consider its inclusion in our program, as we do all submissions, based on perceived merit.

That conclusion would be based on an assumption by the author of the merit of his submission. Now, back to the topic of Copia... |

Title: Re: Canoecopia 2015 Post by old_salt on Jan 26th, 2015 at 8:24pm
Don't lose hope PJ. To quote the NFL, 'upon further review', we have decided your slide should be included in our presentation. I overlooked your obvious wisdom, and for that I'm deeply apologetic. Your slide is a great 'before' shot, illustrating chaos in the canoe.
Actually, we can assist you here. We can show you a bottle holder so close, that you will never think you are thirsty. We can show you some mounting options for your chew. We can even show you how to recycle your chew can into a puck mount for your transducer. We can even help you with a livewell for those nice Waldo's. :dankk2 We'll look for you at Copia. ;) |

You'll also need this . . . Note the keen focus and stealthy appropinquation. Even MT doesn't have one of these.

MT would have one if he could... |

i would love to see the tiger stripe-esque tan lines that wearing those sandals without socks would have achieved on such a sunny day!

True enough, but the ONLY thing worse than wearing socks with outdoor sandals on a warm sunny day is wearing BLACK knee-high ones. That's ground's for revocation of your Manly Man Card in every state except FLA, which gets the Retired Senior exemption. :-? ;D ;D |

I get those awesome summer 'tiger stripes' from wearing my Keen sandal all summer long. It makes me feel like I've spent a good amount of time outdoors when they get good and dark!
Back on topic - just made my flight reservations for Madison! Looking forward to my first 'copia, meeting some fellow QJ'ers (I've only met PAJeff....up on Brent Lake last summer) and spending some time with family. I have family just north of town and am coming in early to see some of them. pd |

I'm starting to wonder how many QJers are planning to attend Copia, March 13-15, in Madtown?
How many are interested in a Saturday dinner? How many are interested in a Friday dinner? Please post here if you are planning to attend. Thanks. 8-) :thumbup :thumbup |

I will be attending and in town mid afternoon on Friday and heading back home Saturday afternoon. Anyone who has enough nerve to say "hello" has my promise I will not be as long winded in conversation as I have been in recent posts.

Title: Re: Canoecopia 2015 Post by Spartan2 on Feb 2nd, 2015 at 2:07pm
We will be there Friday and Saturday for probably almost all of the time, but for sure we will be at the 7:30 presentation of "Paddle Songs" by Jerry Vandiver on Friday evening and again for Jerry's presentation at 3:30 on Saturday (Algonquin Room). We will have our 12-year-old granddaughter with us. She is tall and willowy and looks older than 12 (actually she won't be 12 until May.) I am sure I have posted enough photos of us that we are recognizable, and please do say "Hi!" if you see us.
It is entirely possible that we will come to the Coliseum Bar on Saturday for our lunch, with the possibility in mind that we might see some QJ folks there. Whether or not we stay for Sunday's presentations may depend upon how enthusiastic Anna is for Canoecopia, since it will be her first experience there. We also have to allow for some good time in the hotel swimming pool. ;) |

Yes to an informal Saturday midday gathering at the Coliseum if that is where it will be. Also a yes to the Sat. night dinner.

I will be up all day Sat. and would be at the supper if it happens. If it is set I would try to contact some of those that decided to attend the QJ dinner at the last minute last year.

Hey OS,
Having missed last years KayakCopia due to illness, I will be there this year. Sat. lunch at the Coliseum, and possibly a dinner Sat. night will be in my plans. Hmm. Perhaps I can stay through a presentation Sunday to heckle, er, ask questions about setting up a canoe.... |

Title: Re: Canoecopia 2015 Post by old_salt on Feb 6th, 2015 at 2:21am
I'm sure that many are wondering about a Saturday dinner. I PMed Kingfisher to express appreciation for all of his work on past dinners and inquired if something was in the works. He responded that he no longer had time to devote to this, due to a change at work. He expressed support for us to continue the dinner tradition.
MuleLars and I are working on a plan for Saturday dinner, as well as a Friday evening meal. If you have any suggestions, please PM MuleLars or me or post here. We will post when we have plans. Thanks for your patience. 8-) |

I went to the web site for Canoeacopia to check the dates. Members on this site have often said it should be called Kayakacopia because of the emphasis on kayaks. All the pictures of the boats are of kayaks and not a single canoe to be seen. I am only talking about the home page. No doubt if you go into their site, they probably have a photo of a canoe here and there. It is just interesting how things change over time. Westwood

I'll be posting separate threads for the Friday dinner and the Saturday dinner.
For Saturday night, I'll be checking with the folks at Gray's but I'll look into some other potential venues as well. I just want to make sure we get a good deal. I know Kingfisher worked very very hard on securing Grey's for us the last few years, but it was sounding like we might not be able to make the sweetheart deal he was able to get before. Stay tuned. And many many thanks to Kingfisher for all of his past effort on the Saturday dinner!! |

I'm up for the Saturday lunch and looking forward to meeting some of the colorful charaters from QJ. I'd like to do the dinner Saturday, but cannot commit just yet. Staying at my sister's just north of Mauston, so I have a bit of a drive to my 'hotel'. Thanks ML for putting the dinner together.
