This camera has the GPS and I keep it shut off.  There are 3 GPS modes off, airplane, and always on.  In the full on position the GPS is always running and running the battery down so it will have the correct coordinates for a quick picture. In airplane mode the GPS is just on when the camera is on ready to take pictures and if you grab the camera and turn it on and take a picture it will put the coordinates that the GPS got the last time the camera was on for long enough to get coordinates, maybe yesterday 100 miles away.
