Title: Stickers
Post by ravenwolf on Jan 26th, 2015 at 2:56am
Good day to all, getting new canoe, and wanted to ask if there are any stickers for sale. I read an old post about new vendor etc. If I'm asking might as well throw in a hat and shirt, also. Best to you and yours, Ravenwolf :

A lot of views, would it help, if I said I own two canoes? Good day. Ravenwolf

qj doesn't have a store.  The decals are generated when there is enough interest to warrant making a few dozen at a time.  Unless there are a few lying around db's house, you may just have to wait.  I could use a pair myself.

I think db has already cranked out a batch to respond to everyone's request but I just thought to mention that it's possible to make your own. With db's help I printed out a couple inukshuk images on waterproof ( I think it was 'waterslide' paper) paper, cut them out, and then applied them to my canoe. Just a thought.

Been talking to db and we/I will initiate some decal and t-shirt production.  The last design was an 10x8 laser cut decal of "high 5, legless, picto man" with different colors and borders, etc...  I thought maybe we could open it up to the community and have a new design contest.  It would still need to include 'high 5, legless picto man' and the website url.  For cost issues, let's keep it to 2 colors.  So, lets see your ideas!  We'll put them up in a gallery and then vote on the winner and start production.  If you want them in time for camping season this year, let's establish the deadline for submissions as midnight, May 9.  Please email submissions in a high dpi resolution so it can be shrunk down to 10x8, 9x6 or something close.  Have fun.  Oh, here's a link to a .bmp of   (You need to Login or Register

My submission/vote is to keep it the same. That way it matches what I have. Ochre and black for colors.

Any thought to a nylon ball cap?

I could use two sets, whenever they're available - one for a skincoat kevlar boat (black, I suppose) and one for a red boat (also black).

I'm going to order some decals tomorrow afternoon. I'll see what I can find in gold and red ochre.

T's, hat's, dew rags… Anyone have a preference on web based vendors like cafe press, zazzel…? That way I don't have the inventory/shipping headache and you guys would have color, material… (I noticed wicking T's) and OS could finally get the dang cap he's always wanted!  ;)

PJ wasn't kidding about the design contest idea…

DB, thanks for remembering I am interested in gold decals for my 'black gold' Bell Northwind!  I'll have a set in black as well for my newly acquired, but older, natural Kevlar Merlin II.

That's DOO-Rag or Do-Rag unless your terminally square. :) ;D ;D

I'd like to see a QJ offering in that item that you could soak in Permithrin and wear under your cap of choice to keep the bugs at bay on portages.

Lighter colors would be better for bug repelling?
Red and Ochre/ Light Olive would probably do the trick too.

I MADE 2 out of Bandannas and some buttons and scrunchie elastic, but ready made would be easier for most to adopt?

Wonder what ever happened to TTC?  Wasn't he in charge of this years ago?

Title: Re: Stickers
Post by db on Apr 30th, 2015 at 5:39pm
TTC printed the first batch and even delivered them to my house! That was sweet. Can't thank him enough.

I went down and helped him screen the second batch but mileage plus the usual costs and the larger sizes I thought would sell but didn't more than ate up any profit. I had fun printing them though so there is that.

The web based vendor idea seemed like a good idea to me at the time but I can't bring myself to offer anything at a price that far above what I think reasonable even for a basic cotton Tshirt. Sorry.

Could you get it in a basic iron on decal that we could apply to shirt of choice? Also, in a size to put on my dang cap? 8-)
My opinion is that it should be the same as canoe decal. That way we can canoe in proper uniform. :o

If you want to offer choice, offer two different lines. "Shut up & fish" for fisherfolks, and "Enjoy the Journey" for everyone else. Optional wording below picto could be, "BWCAW, Quetico, & points North".

or maybe . ..  . I think I am going to make 3 designs.  One with picto-man holding a paddle, a fishing-rod and a jug.

Got my decals today.  Anyone else's look weird, misprinted?

Yes the paddle looks like there is a fat blob on the bottom end. And I did not get the Quiet Journey information decal like last time. But upon further inspection that fat piece separates from the paddle and it is the Quiet Journey web address and name decal. 8-)

My decals were printed fine but I had trouble applying them. Probably operator error as I didn't get instructions come through on the invoice. I could have asked here but decided to wing it (bad idea in hindsight) as I soaked them in warm water as one would with waterslide decals. The bottom line was that they fell off when I went in two weeks ago. So, I'll get some waterslide decal paper and pull out the inukshuk design I have on file and reprint & apply. I probably left my originals sitting around too long over the winter in my basement and they dried out?

Here are two links about applying the decals:

Once the decal is on your boat the area around the Qj.com letters can be carefully pealed away. As I understand it, it is a pressure sensitive adhesive that achieves full bond in 12 hours so I'd try light to medium pressure before removing the text area and then going over everything with firm pressure to assure a good bond.

I'd appreciate it if any hints you discover or questions you find when you apply them be shared with everyone here:
