ST, of course I would be playing the odds in such a scenario as my previous posting.  Odds are that person described thus far has a non-violent disposition.  A party of 2 or 4 would immediately recognize a need to help with or a need to separate from the encounter.  This fellow being in the woods for more than 5 days now trying to get along on a diet of blueberries is going to be feeling a bit depleted.
All said, I agree with OS that it would be easier to spot and extract this person without the presence of others in the area.
