My brother and I cashed in on our  American express points and got got a bunch of rei gift cards (2400). Looking to buy all new gear. Our own stuff is a bunch of old hand me downs and we haven't used for trips like this due to unreliability (done full outfitting instead).

Now looking to acquire much of our own gear and do partial outfitting for canoe and any other items we don't buy.

Thoughts? Favorite gear in each category?

Thoughts on using 2 granite gear superior packs (with liners) to house food, tents, cooking,  camp equipment, sleeping bags and pads for 2 people?

Thoughts on using Backpacking backpack (lined with construction garbage bag and with waterproof compression pack inside for important items) as personal pack instead of something like a sealine pack? Using the sealine packs from outfitters before, I know they have great waterproof capabilities, but no pockets or compartments to organize gear.

We're thinking msr carbon reflex tent.

Thoughts on favorite stove or kitchen gear set? Only need for 2 people.
