We always tip the help, van drivers, boat drivers, anyone who went out of their way to be helpful.  One outfitter we frequented had one employee who knew and fished the Quetico well.  Always gave us good current info on where we were going.  It was helpful enough we would show up, tell him where we were headed and hand him $50. Split between four guys $12.50 out of each pocket was a bargain for what information we received.
