For 35+ years I always just jumped into the lake after scrubbing down with soap and washing my hair. But a few years ago while on Darky I went face to face with a huge snapping turtle when I dove in the water to rinse off.

Ever since that snapping turtle episode I have always worn a swimsuit when rinsing off. Don't want to risk losing a dangling appendage to a turtle. LOL

Sometimes I will wade out from shore BAREFOOT if the conditions were right to fish.

Looked down one day to see a huge snapper eyeballing my toes. Now I wear shorts AND water shoes. ;D ;D

I'm having a hard time believing it was a fish that did that to the girl's foot. That's a very nasty injury. Personally I don't skinny dip anymore for the reasons that Wally13 stated and I always wear water shoes when I swim.

I told the story on another board of my father's friend who was fishing out of a float tube dangling a shiny watch over the side. A big northern grabbed onto his wrist and he ended up with 17 stitches. He lost the watch also. Good thing he wasn't far from help.

Beware!

I had just finished some skinny-dipping when DentonDoc pointed to THREE of these critters swimming right along with me. This one, the smallest of the three, got especially friendly.

We had a small sailboat and on nearly calm days you could coast along, lazily dragging your toes in the water along side. When my Hubby took up Muskie fishing on Vermilion and started to regularly hook 4-5 footers he gave up the toe dragging.
Re: Snapping turtles; seems like every popular campsite has one lurking at the shoreline waiting for some food morsels.

Cirrus Lake, believe it or not.

As Intrepid_Camper points out, snappers like "popular" campsites. This one, 2Z, is one of the most popular on Cirrus.

Fat boy could have lost a toe or two....
