Would be handy when the crankbait is inside the throat.  I'm assuming you slide the sharp end in the slot under the jaw? Hooking in the gills would wound the fish, right?

I think if you put it in the gill and out the mouth and start to lift it will slide down to a point near the mouth. I think that is one slot.

I can't imagine this would be good for a fish, but it appears that is how its designed to be used.
Last thing you want is to injure a fishes gills IF your doing catch and release.

Right, you hurt the gills and they die.  I try to go under the jaw if I can't grab them behind the neck but now I use an orange gripper.  I need to switch to the rotating boga grip.

Looks like a knockoff of the infamous ‘Thingama Jig’. :-/

Years ago I bought a similar product which was made out of plastic.  I tried to use it a few times and found it hard to use.  I still have it and will give it to anyone free provided you pay shipping and handling.  I don't think it would hurt a fish all that much if done properly.
