Title: Quetico Park Management Plan Out
Post by Old Salt on Jan 24th, 2018 at 2:46am
Some of you likely received the same letter I did regarding the new plan. I gave it a quick read, and thought I would share a few observations.

1) The reach of the LLC guides has been reduced from 20 lakes to 9 lakes. They are: Beaverhouse, Quetico, Cirrus, Jean, Wolseley, Tanner, Poohbah, Minn, and McAree.

2) There will be 2 lakes each year accessed by fly-in. Beaverhouse is one and the other will rotate between Cirrus, Jean, and Poohbah.

3) They are considering installing privies on heavily used campsites.

4) Park staff may use motorized craft for research and enforcement.

5) Use of drones are banned in the Park.

I’m sure you will find other items of note and interest. 8-)

This is all good to know, Old Salt.  Thanks!  I'm sort of surprised I haven't received that letter yet.

Sounds like I can leave my industrial strength-slingshot at home, now.  Was going to pack it in case drones appeared near my campsites & beaches during my daily swim.  I just hate to inadvertently & adversely affect the sensibilities of the young, naive, &/or uninitiated in the wild ways of the north.  Would have made for great sport, though....

I worry more about the Butt sisters paying a surprise visit, or Yogi going after the food pails.
Maybe someone looking for PJ's jug.  ;) ;D ;D

I decided to go old school Biblical low-tech.
Keeps riff-raff from fishing right off your campsite too.  :o ;D ;D

Regarding the 9 lakes, if only Beaverhouse, Cirrus, Jean and Poohbah are being used for fly in's, what will they be doing in the other five lakes?

Can one find out which lake will be used for fly in's each year?

Thanks  :)

It sounds like Beaverhouse will be used every year. Traditionally, they announce the other lake sometime in the Spring. They will have boat caches on all 9 lakes, for the purpose of daytrip fishing. Follow them to find the waldo holes. ;) ;D

You can contact the Park Office to learn the specifics. 8-)

The BH fly-in gives fishermen the option of staying on BH. If you go over to Quetico lk there are native guide/Ranger boats at the put-in.

If you have a motorboat and a couple of strong guides, you can easily take a powerboat into Cirrus.

Wolsey lk is accessible by boat from the river. Ran into a group one year doing that.

Jean they would have to either fly in motor boats or canoes to make it easy on the guides.

Someone always posts what lake they'll be using as a fly-in other than BH. Park office would know too.
