For anyone that likes the Chota Quetico Trekker or is looking for a good deal on a good portage boot, Piragis Northwoods Outfitters has them on close out clearance for $75. Get 'em while they last as it says they will not be ordering them again. Use coupon code MARCP19 for free shipping.

I love my Chotas. So why would they discontinue their best seller? I already have 2 pair since forgetting them one year and buying another.

So to answer Chaga's question (as rhetorical as it may have been) I called both Piragis and Chota to get - as Paul Harvey would say - the rest of the story. According to Jordan, the Trekker is no longer a best seller and more people are opting for the Hybrid 800 High Top boot, so they're cutting it from the herd. Dan at Chota told me that they were making the boot only for Piragis, so that model will no longer be made or sold by anyone. An alternative would be their Lost Creek, currently $105 on their website. OS actually has the Hybrid too, not the Trekker. I'd post a photo of them on his feet from last summer's trip if I'd ever get the gumption to figure that out - Mossback, you're my hero.

PD is correct. I have the Chota Hybrid. They are lighter weight, but are holding up well. I really like them.
8-) Please don’t confuse me with the facts. ;D |
