Funny stuff everyone!
On my first solo two years ago in WCPP I was paddling the large bay on the east side of what Marten calls Splitrock Lake and I refer to as Patrick Lake (just to confuse each other) along the west route from Irvine. Along the north side of that bay there is a sloping piece of exposed Canadian Shield about 150m long and 30m wide. On the bottom of the hill next to the shore are several large boulders arranged in a semi circle. On the top of the hill there are some larger boulders as well. I hiked to the top of the hill and was taking in the beauty of it all when all of a sudden the ground started shaking! I just stood there wondering what was going on when all of a sudden a crack opened up in the granite and some smoke came out which quickly turned into the form of the devil himself! He stood right in front of me and we looked each other in the eye for a minute or so, could've been longer. After a while he spoke...."why aren't you afraid of me like everyone else I encounter" to which I replied " why would I be afraid of you, I've been married to your sister for 42 years." He stood in silence for a moment or three, said he understood and went back to wherever he came from. Now I know why those rocks are there. |
