Joey Lake, Walleyes and Marten's secret weapon
Wet conditions, another supper of Mac n cheese and general misery had everyone in their tents well before the unseen sun had set. This did pay off with rising early and noting our first view of the sky since the trip began. Fishing poles were leaning against a tree so I grabbed mine with its hot pink Dardevle hanging from a steel leader. I wanted the others to catch the fish so had not done any fishing the previous day. The Walleye struck as soon as I started to reel in. Our camp was on a rock slope that extended out into the water so the Walleye was pulled splashing out of the water and put on the stringer. All the splashing woke the others but three more casts had four Walleye on the stringer. I put my pole down since I only "fish to eat." Fancy fishing rigs went into action but no fish were caught. I had seen this happen too many times to be surprised. After an hour I decided I would fill my limit and cast the hot pink Dardevle out from where I sat sipping my coffee. As expected Walleye # 5 was added to the stringer. Ugly looks came my way but I tried to explain that the pre trip info included instructions on the fishing lure needed. |
