Do I detect sarcasm or unbelief?? We laid an old tripping buddy to rest this winter so I can't have him back me up on the outcome of his unbelief in the use of hot pink Dardevles for Walleye. Long before the portages were cut into Irvine Lake by WCPP trail crews we would be dropped in by floatplane. Jim was one of the chosen few that year. Now Jim was a very dedicated fisherman. He came well prepared to fish, especially for monster pike. His 8 foot kayak for this was a concern but I digress. He had heard from others about the hot pink Dardevle I said was all I needed for a lure. On the drive up he showed me a bottle of hot pink nail polish and said if I actually caught a Walleye with my big pink slab he would paint his toenails to match. He did a nice job of it the next evening and it made for a good laugh. At the end of our stay we loaded the plane in a heavy rain and taxied out and waited out a bad thunderstorm. We took off but the route to Red Lake was blocked by the storm It was so bad there was no radio contact. The pilot gave up when fuel was going to be a problem and landed at Souborin Lodge where the sun was shining. We were all soaked and boots were muddy from loading the plane. We were invited inside for hot coffee anyway but did shed our muddy shoes and socks on a big deck occupied by numerous lodge guests. Jim became the object of fixed stares as he exposed those hot pink toenai!s. The guest all slid down the benches away from a questionable character dropped into their midst. |
