We did a layover day in the Blackfly Camp, we had not noticed the flowing swamp on the back edge. Looking back I feel all our eyes may have been nearly swollen shut. My rest day was spent clearing an old trapper's trail so we could at least clamber over the fallen trees. A bottomless bog mid-way was passable until the brush I laid down was pushed thigh deep into the ooze. One more bushwhack after the trappers trail and we arrived on Joey Lake. Eight buggy and dreary days and not one Walleye was caught that afternoon. Every time I approached the group huddled out of the blowing wind and rain they fell silent.
