In just over 3 months we will gather and celebrate at Copia, March 13-15. Your unofficial, unelected, all-volunteer Copia planning team of myself, Wally 13, mpeebles, and MuleLars. If you have any suggestions or input you want us to consider, please post here or send a PM. We hope to have plans to post in the near future. 8-)

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Lodging & Meeting Room Post by Old Salt on Dec 8th, 2019 at 7:25pm
We have been negotiating with Country Inn & Suites, 400 River Place in Menona, WI. We have the best deal we have ever had, which speaks well to how they view us as customers. 8-)
We have reserved a block of 10 rooms, each with 2 queen beds for both Friday and Saturday nights, for only $92 per night. This offer is good until all 10 rooms are booked for both nights. To get the deal, you must call them at 608-221-0055 and give them our QJ code, “2003QuietJ”. Our group name is ‘QuietJourney’. After you book, please post here. Also, if you have any difficulty with booking, please let me know. This offer expires on February 12, 2020. So don’t wait too long. 8-) I’m sure some of you may be able to find cheaper accommodations, but let me remind you that this rate includes their free cooked breakfast, Internet, and you don’t need to drive around in unpredictable weather. There’s another incentive to stay at CI&S. If we can fill all 10 rooms, we will get a significant discount on the meeting room that we have all come to appreciate and enjoy. 8-) This will keep expenses at an affordable level. If, by chance, you have already booked, cancel and rebook with us. 8-) Please wait until tomorrow to call them to give them a chance to get this in their system. ;) For comparison purposes, last years Copia rate was $115 per night. Our rate is $23 night cheaper. 8-) |

Phone number not in service

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by Old Salt on Dec 9th, 2019 at 3:45pm
It’s a good number. Try clicking on it or try again later. Monday morning is typically busy for hotels. Sorry for your trouble. ;)
I just made my reservation for Snowdog and myself by clicking on the number in my previous post. 8-) ;) |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by Old Salt on Dec 9th, 2019 at 4:23pm
Are you and Jimbo sharing a room or is it for just you?
As a point of clarification, if you are sharing a room with other QJ members, it is helpful to tracking our numbers to know that. Thank you! 8-) |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by Old Salt on Dec 9th, 2019 at 5:46pm
Thanks MP, I have you and Jimbo sharing a room.
Another clarification, the $92 per night rate is guaranteed, regardless of how many rooms we book. Also, the block is only 10 rooms, first come. They need to be booked both nights. If you are only staying one night, you might be able to find someone to take the other night by posting here. Each room can be booked for up to four people. We will get a 50% discount on the meeting room if we fill all 10 rooms both nights. This will keep total costs very reasonable. We hope you will agree and we’ll see you in 8-)Madtown! Another note, daylight saving time will occur the previous weekend. 8-) |

Old Salt,
Thanks for setting up the Room Discount for 2020 Copia at the Country Inn & Suites Menona, WI. I just booked a room for 2 nights March 13th and 14th @ $92 per night. The booking with discount went without a hitch. The hotel agent knew about our QJ block of rooms and meeting room arrangement. |

Yeah.....thanks for taking the lead on this OS! Nice price btw.
I booked one room for two nights. Looking forward! |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by Old Salt on Dec 11th, 2019 at 6:59pm
Thanks mpeebles! We have 5 rooms booked and only 5 left at the discount price. When they’re gone, the price will likely go up. Don’t miss out! These rooms may be gone before the Show Guides are public.
BTW, I always look forward to these gatherings. 8-) In the spirit of Voyaguers of old, the best Information about Quetico and WCPP is in our room. Bring your maps and plan to share and receive hard earned information. 8-) |

I am only interested in a room for Friday night so if anyone wants Sat. only we could snag a room at these great rates.
Not against sharing Friday but spoiler alert- I snore |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by Old Salt on Dec 24th, 2019 at 2:39am
Marten,
I would suggest that you go ahead and book for Friday night. If someone wants Saturday night only, the motel can match them to your room. ;) 8-) |

Gotcha down for a room. Both nights. Only two rooms left at $92 per night. Don’t miss the boat! Row the boat! 8-) Happy New Year! 8-)

|
Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by HighnDry on Jan 1st, 2020 at 6:31pm
Confirmed. Both Fri & Sat, departing (with great sadness :) on Sunday AM. How about a presentation on the group solo? I could show my slides of auroras from South Pole but that would put the room to sleep in like 30 seconds -- and has nothing to do with canoeing!
I'd be interested in paddles and pfds ( I need new ones) if anyone wants to extol the virtues of particular brands, styles, etc. Loved that pictures of MP and TomT's faithful companion Luna in the BWJ. Just some random thoughts on presentations that I'll throw out to see what sticks to the wall. Happy New Year everyone. |

For Q type tripping/fishing, I use this style. Mine is an older version with just 2 large zip pockets. It has held up well and I don't baby it either. This version gives you even more storage options. For warm weather that full mesh top can't be beaten. The neoprene neck really does make it super comfortable. (You need to Login or Register |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by zski on Jan 2nd, 2020 at 4:28pm
That is the same pfd that I use (SP link) except mine's from bass pro. The storage is a bit dift but essentially the same. It's comfortable and I love the storage. I can't speak for how it compares to others.

Both nights? Thanks 8-) Who will get the last room?? :-/ 8-) |

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by TomT on Jan 2nd, 2020 at 6:34pm
Both nights. It will be nice not to have to drive from a different hotel to meet up.

Title: Re: Copia 2020 Post by HighnDry on Jan 3rd, 2020 at 3:03am
I second that! Rolling out of bed and heading downstairs for breakfast is a lot better than driving over from another hotel. Should be a fun time as usual - I'm bringing maps to this one.

Post here so you can be added to the list. We appreciate them opening a few more rooms so that everyone who wants one can get one. 8-) Even if you only need one night, sign up! Deadline for this sweetheart deal is Valentines Day, Friday, February 14. Don’t miss out!

Looking forward to seeing you Bob B, as well. I have been waiting all year to ask you a question - how you liked using the Greenland paddle with your solo canoe? And yes, the Bob I am referring to is Jazzman. He and I went on a fantastic trip last July from Wallace lake down the Wanipagow and up the Broadleaf, across Aikens Lake, and down the Gammon and Bloodvein Rivers to the bridge outside Bloodvein. We are planning a June trip this year down the Kopka River. See you soon.

Round R.
The Greenland Paddle ... well, I think it is too short , but is made so well, I keep tinkering. However, I have plans to try stand-up paddling in my prospector this year ... it may shine there ... assuming I can find the balance of my younger days. Looking forward to visiting with you and Bob again. I did not do a canoe trip to the back country last year ( did not trust the knee) :-[ . My knee is better than it has been in a long time and Jake and I are Jonseing for some timber time. We are hoping to do a couple trips this summer. 8-) |
