Title: The Quetico Lodge & Conference Center Post by Jimbo on Jan 23rd, 2020 at 9:34pm
Well, I have some truly good news for paddlers looking for lodging & meals near the eastern end of Quetico Park. The former Quetico College School has been reincarnated in the form of "The Quetico Lodge and Conference Center." See: (You need to Login or Register
I've spoken directly with Reagan Hall, one of the new proprietors, who was able to answer several of my questions. Rooms are available at $80/night and this includes a complimentary breakfast. Suppers (or even "bag lunches" for your first day in the park) may be arranged with advance notice. Furthermore, their nice indoor swimming pool should be fully functional this summer. Apparently, Reagan and his wife, Cynthia, have many other enhancements planned for the facility, as well. Many of us who have spent our "night-before" (and, perhaps, our first night "after" leaving the park) at this facility were much saddened to learn that The Quetico College School had to close. To see the property come back again in this more-hospitality-focused iteration is REALLY good news! If your plan is to enter Quetico Park using Baptism, Pickerel or Stanton Bay "entry points", the location is perfect. The beautiful venue hasn't changed so, frankly, if the food and hospitality matches or surpasses what we've experienced in the past, I might be inclined in the future to always bypass Atikokan, no matter where I was entering the park. In fact, I have spent an entire week there in a rental house by Eva Lake when I put together a reunion with some old friends. We had a great time... and only once ever drove over to Atikokan (I had to buy a new fishing reel). In any case, I wanted to flag this new resource for QJ'ers, especially as so many of us are now planning our summer adventures. Just ask any QJ'er who has stayed there before... it beats ANYTHING in the region! FYI Jimbo 8-) |
